Missing medications

Missing medications

This is one of the most frequent and important triggers of breakthrough seizures. This problem gets aggravated in some situations: for example some parents or patients believe that medications are “unnatural” and are afraid of the potential side effects and prefer not to use them on their children or themselves; adolescents tend to miss to take some doses since many times they feel that they do not need to take the medications or they have such a busy life that they forget; patients with memory problems-very common in persons with epilepsy- could forget or are unsure if they took the medication or not and they end up missing some does. In order to prevent any of these factors, a conversation with your doctor should take place to go over all potential side effects so that you feel comfortable that is right for you to take medications, the importance of medications should be stressed to adolescents to prevent breakthrough seizures and for persons with memory problems, pill organizers have been recommended.
