Survey: For this issue, we asked our readers, have you ever bitten your tongue during a seizure. There were three responses to choose from: Yes, No, I didn’t even know that could happen.
In our January 2024 issue, we featured a new device called PATI (Protector Against Tongue Injury) and that got us thinking, how many people with epilepsy have had this problem (https://www.epilepsygroup.com/notes6-35-331/safety-in-epilepsy-and-seizures-have-you-ever-bitten-yo.htm). So, for this issue, we asked our readers if they had ever bitten their tongue during a seizure.
There were three responses to choose from: Yes, No, I didn’t even know that could happen.
Responses show that the majority (63%) have bitten their tongue during a seizure at some point in their lifetime which shows that this is a common issue. So, it really seems that Ashlyn Sanders’ initiative to design and produce the PATI has a good potential to help patients suffering from seizure-related tongue bites.
