Epilepsy Activities in summer of 2012: Epilepsy education, Purple Knitting club, Epilepsy Spoken Word for teens, and much more. Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group patients and staff have been busy!

July 12, 19, 26, and August 2-Purple Knitting Club for Epilepsy: Our patients (some of whom had never knitted anything in their lives) attended the Purple Knitting Club for Epilepsy Awareness at our Hackensack NJ office.  They created truly beautiful scarves and hats in all tones of purple.  All will be worn in November to promote epilepsy awareness.

July 18-Epilepsy Spoken Word: teens and young adults with epilepsy were invited to meet at a Manhattan, NY coffee shop for a low-key fun get together where attendees sipped some coffee/tea, chatted, and wrote free style about the epilepsy challenges they face daily.

July 24 and 25-Computer 101 training: was provided in our Hackensack and White Plains Epilepsy Group offices.  Patients who attended learned basics about MS Word, setting up an email account, safely going on to social media sites, and looking for a job on-line.

August 12-Lennox Gastaut Support Group: the Lennox Gastaut Foundation held a support group in Hackensack Medical Center for their Bergen County members.  Dr. Eric Segal gave a brief presentation on alternative treatments that can be used in Lennox Gastaut.

August 13-Let’s Enjoy Summer at the Alstede Farms in New Jersey.  Our younger epilepsy patients and families were invited to spend half a day at the farm, go peach picking, take a hay ride, check out all the animals and eat some pizza.  It was an incredible day for all those who went.

June 2012-Radio Interview on Epilepsy: Dr. Marcela Bonafina was interviewed on Sirius Channel 145 (Spanish speaking radio that is transmitted in the morning and afternoon across the USA) by Luis Miranda on the psychology and neuropsychology of epilepsy.
