Epilepsy Activities Fall 2012: Epilepsy education, American Epilepsy Society, Purple Knitting club, Epilepsy Spoken Word, Purple Pumpkin Project for epilepsy. Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group
The Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group organized the Epilepsy: Knowledge is Power campaign in 2012 that spanned three states (NY, NJ, and CT) and reached hundreds, including patients, loved ones, nurses and doctors.
This is a list of all the epilepsy educational programs and where they were held just in the second half of 2012.

Many Epilepsy events were held this year to raise epilepsy awareness and funds for local Epilepsy Foundations. The added bonus from these events was that friendships were made and a sense of community grew.
A talented patient started our Purple Knitting club in Hackensack by volunteering her time and expertise to teach others how to knit. This was supposed to be a 4 week course and it has now grown into a permanent club that meets weekly. The club produced so many scarves and hats that the group decided to raffle them off to raise funds for the local epilepsy foundations. The raffle produced almost $100 for the Epilepsy Foundation of NJ! The club was such a success that we found volunteer expert knitters for White Plains and Middletown, NY and knitting clubs were started there too. A raffle in Middletown produced some $90 for the Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern NY!

Teens and young adults with epilepsy benefited from Epilepsy Spoken word. The group has held three meetings in Manhattan. They meet at different coffee shops where they read their personal writings and shared some time together:
The Purple Pumpkin Project founded by this issue’s epilepsy star, Ron Lamontagne of Connecticut spread to our offices in Middletown, NY and Hackensack, NJ. We all had so much fun painting and everyone took home a purple pumpkin to spread education awareness:
