Seizure Star: Monica Park, Executive Director FND Hope USA

Monica Park is the new Executive Director of FND Hope USA, a non-for-profit that represents and supports persons living with functional neurological disorders (FND) including psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (also known as functional seizures). The cause of FND is not well understood. It can be triggered by neurological issues (e.g., head injury), other forms of physical stress or psychological stress and trauma.  Seizures can be one symptom in FND but there can be others such as paralysis, tingling, difficulties speaking or swallowing, etc.

Our epilepsy and seizures community of patients, family, friends and doctors has been busy!

We have certainly been busy during 2021 including giving webinars and participating in producing an important consensus statement on managing Sturge Weber Syndrome.  In addition, just a month ago, NEREG welcomed our newest pediatric neurologist and epileptologist (Dr. Jose Serruya) to our White Plains, NY office.  Click below to read all about these accomplishments.

VIRTUAL SUPPORT GROUPS

PSYCHOGENIC NON-EPILEPTIC SEIZURES (PNES) SUPPORT GROUP

Third Wednesday of the month from 1PM to 2PM

The group is for patients at our NEREG PNES program diagnosed with PNES who have completed treatment or who are advanced in their current treatment. Unfortunately, the group is not open to anyone who has not gone through our treatment program because the demand would be too great for our conference call. The group meets to touch base, to go over current problems that may have arisen for group members associated to PNES, for general support and comradery, and to continue to be part of the PNES community. To register or obtain more information: lmyers@epilepsygroup.com
