Alcohol and illicit drugs

Alcohol can precipitate seizures not by its use, but by its withdrawal effect. When people drink high amounts of alcohol, there is an increase chance of seizures when alcohol leaves the body (usually one day after drinking). This is why alcohol should be avoided in particular in persons with predisposition for seizures. The long terms effects of alcohol can also affect seizures. Person have a greater tendency to fall and therefore injure the head and brain which could indeed cause seizures and also there is an association with long term alcohol use and the deficiency of important nutrients and vitamins that could lead to seizures. Illicit drugs are also associated with seizures, mainly cocaine and amphetamines.
