Epilepsy Information

What to expect if you call after hours?

• Most groups do not provide direct access to your personal doctor, unless he/she happens to be on call that day, so you will talk to the doctor who is “on call”.

• There are some epilepsy groups that only have epilepsy specialists  covering after hours, but in many “academic institutions” there are trainees (such as residents or fellows). Of course, it is preferable to be taken care of by a trained and experience epilepsy doctor if possible.
This is an important question to ask and could be an important factor when choosing an epilepsy group: If I call after hours, would an attending epileptologist be on call and take care of my problems or questions, or will I be dealing with a doctor-in-training?
