Our epilepsy community of patients, family, friends and doctors has been busy

Patients, family members, friends, doctors, office managers, nurses, and staff family members have all been extra-busy these last few months raising much needed funds for epilepsy and psychogenic non-epileptic seizure disorders, raising much needed awareness, and being an integral part of the seizure disorders community both in New Jersey and New York.  Read all about the activities NEREG and their patients have been a part of this year!

Drs. Marcelo Lancman, Eric Segal, Olga Segal, and Lorna Myers
rode their bicycles on September 25, 2016 along 30 miles of the Jersey Shore to raise much needed funds for Epilepsy Free, not-for-profit, that provides summer camp scholarships for children diagnosed with epilepsy and continuing education scholarships for adults diagnosed with epilepsy and psychogenic non-epileptic seizures.  They raised a whooping $1100!  On the same day, Dr. Juliann Paolicchi, Melissa Carollo and Sonya Capers donned their sneakers and set out to walk Into the Light for epilepsy in Manhattan NY.  The team raised $870 for the Epilepsy Foundation of NYC.

On October 29, there were two mega-events for epilepsy and seizures held in New Jersey!  NEREG held its very popular annual conference for patients, loved ones, nurses, social workers, and other health professionals.  It took place in Mahwah, NJ and had 300+ people registered!  There were three simultaneous programs-Adult Epilepsy, Pediatric epilepsy and psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES).

On the same day, in Jersey City, veteran NEREG team member and captain, Mary Holtz led the team on the Glow Walk for Epilepsy and Dr. Kirsty Bortnik ran the 5K for epilepsy!  Wow!  NEREG was also one of the three sponsors for the Epilepsy Foundation of NJ, definitely one of our favorite local epilepsy foundations for all the wonderful work they do in the state of NJ for those living with seizures. Team EREG raised another whopping $1025 that day and it all went to the Epilepsy Foundation of NJ. Way to go, Team NEREG!!

On December 2-6, the American Epilepsy Society held its 70th Annual meeting.  The best and brightest researchers and clinicians who specialize in epilepsy and seizure disorders came together from across the globe to present their research, meet for special interest groups, committees and work groups and leave energized to continue their work all year long.  NEREG had a strong presence as usual through Special Interest Groups, Committee memberships, poster presentations, and active networking.  Stay tuned for the beneficial outgrowths from this important meeting.
