b) During August of 2022, NEREG offered four introductory chess lessons for people with epilepsy and seizures. Some of the reasons we chose to offer these lessons is because chess is an excellent way to keep your mind active, can be played from home online or can be played with others in-person which helps socialize.

Thanks so much to Kaleb and Kyle Lancman for starting our Wellness Program off with a wonderful series of online chess lessons offered to people living with epilepsy and seizures. The classes were really interesting and very informative. Some take-aways included setting up a free account on lichess.org where matches can be played with others online and lessons can be accessed. Also, the lessons offered as part of this wellness program included how to castle, controlling the center of the board and some ways to check mate and win the game. And on the last day, already one of the students reported having started to play chess on-line with some regularity so, mission accomplished!

We hope to bring these chess classes back next year so stay tuned. Hopefully we can attract Kyle and Kaleb again for another series of lessons.
