Our epilepsy and seizures community of patients, family, friends and doctors has been busy celebrating Purple Day and meeting for the third epilepsy book club meeting.
Epilepsy on the move! Our community of epilepsy and seizures members is composed of patients, family members, friends and doctors. And over the past few months, our group has been especially busy! To name but a few items, the Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group and partner, Mid-Atlantic Epilepsy and Sleep Center continue with their Wellness in Epilepsy Program. The third virtual book club was held in May, Purple Day was celebrated, the epilepsy support group continued to meet, and the 7th annual PNES conference was held (read above).
• March 26 is one of the most important dates for the epilepsy community. It is PURPLE DAY which is celebrated across the globe by wearing or displaying the color purple in honor of those whose lives have been touched by epilepsy. The Epilepsy Services of New Jersey (ESNJ) hosted the Paint the Pony Purple event on the Jersey Shore as part of their recognition of this special day.
• The Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group and partner, Mid-Atlantic Epilepsy and Sleep Center continued with their Wellness in Epilepsy Program which offers a virtual epilepsy book club every 3 months and monthly epilepsy support group for adults living with epilepsy and for their loved ones.
Books that were read in our past epilepsy book club meetings included “The Spirit Catches you and you fall down” by Anne Fadiman and “Dings” by Dr. Lance Fogan.
• April 29: The Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group hosted their 7th annual PNES conference: Treatments for Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES). Read more about it above.
• Virtual Epilepsy Support group for adults: Ever since the Covid lockdown, NEREG began to host an online epilepsy support group for adults and their loved ones. It has been going strong all these years and seems to keep on growing. The group is lucky to have some founding members who still attend regularly as well as newer members who come in with new questions and comments to keep everyone active. If you are reading this and would be interested in attending the group (meets once a month on the third Wednesday of the month and runs from September through June), email dramyers@yahoo.com. The group will take a break for the summer and resume in September.
