Team Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group raises the most in donations for the American Epilepsy Society in Washington, DC on April 20, 2013 and wins the AES Trophy!

On April 20, 2013 the Epilepsy Foundation of America held its 7th National Walk for Epilepsy in Washington, DC. Fourteen teams walked to raise funds for the American Epilepsy Society (AES). Team Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group (NEREG) walked in this category and raised over $25,000 for AES. They are now the proud recipients of the 2013 AES Cup for their fundraising achievement.

Team captain, Dr. Lorna Myers, Director of Clinical Neuropsychology at the Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group and clinical psychologist commented: “We joined the walk this year to raise funds for the American Epilepsy Society because we know that 100% of the funds raised for AES go to support epilepsy research and education of epilepsy doctors and specialists. Our motivated team of 48 members was made up of patients, sons, daughters, wives, husbands, moms, dads, medical doctors, psychologists, social workers, research assistants, and office support staff.”

The team’s initial goal was $5000. By the day of the walk, the team had raised a whopping $26,074.77! This incredible amount was the result of 4 months of hard work which included patients knitting purple scarves for raffling, others selling these raffle tickets in New Jersey stores and to neighbors; support staff selling the tickets in most NEREG offices; donation buckets placed in most NEREG waiting rooms; one mom who sold t-shirts, another mom who held fundraising events at her spa; all types of social media and steady donations from the NEREG docs. Efforts were so impressive that on the last week, the Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group doctors announced they would match the amount raised to support the incredible efforts made during those four months.

Our heartiest congratulations go out to all team members, donors and supporters for having helped us reach this goal!
