Our epilepsy specialists in New York and New Jersey are actively working

Our epilepsy specialists in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut have been very active this year writing books on epilepsy, teaching about epilepsy through webinars and live conferences, and participating in many activities at the American Epilepsy Society!  Every one of these activities moves epilepsy forward in the right direction.

Dr. Marcelo Lancman and his colleagues just published a book on epilepsy in Spanish in November, 2013. The book is called Qué Necesitas Saber si la Epilepsia Ha Tocado Tu Vida (What You Need to Know if Epilepsy Has Touched Your Life) and represents a huge contribution to raising epilepsy awareness and educating the Hispanic, Spanish-speaking community.  As always, all on-line earnings are donated to the Epilepsy Free Foundation to support college and summer camp scholarships for persons with epilepsy.

Dr. Christos Lambrakis passed his Epilepsy Board Exam! This was the first time board certification in epilepsy was offered by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. In September 2010, the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) approved the application sponsored by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), to offer subspecialty certification in Epilepsy. This was done to officially establish the field of epilepsy as a definite area of subspecialization in neurology and child neurology, and to provide a means of identifying physicians properly trained and experienced in treating epilepsy.

Dr. Lambrakis is one of very few who hold this board certificatation in the New York State region the Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group covers.

In addition, our epilepsy specialists were incredibly busy and productive in the 2013 autumn months through webinars on treating epilepsy and seizures with diets, psychogenic non-epileptic seizures, and what you need to know if you have epilepsy and a brain tumor. Seven epilepsy educational days that were free and open to the public were offered in New Jersey at Summit, New Brunswick, and Hackensack, in New York at White Plains, Newburgh, and Manhattan, and in Connecticut at Stamford.  The topics that were covered by our epilepsy specialists included: Anti-seizure drugs and alternative/natural treatments, epilepsy in children, Is that vitamin or supplement safe, treating epilepsy through surgery, Tuberous Sclerosis, epilepsy and genetics, Dravet’s Syndrome, thriving in school with epilepsy, post-traumatic epilepsy, epilepsy in seniors, memory issues in epilepsy, epilepsy emergencies, and much more.   In just a few months, the Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group taught hundreds of people some of the most up-to-date epilepsy information that currently exists.
